Mexico Human Rights Commission condemns murder of LGBT activist

Mexico City, Mar 30 (efe-epa).- The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) of Mexico condemned Friday the murder of LGBT activist Maria Guadalupe Hernandez Flores and asked justice authorities in the central state of Guanajuato to investigate whether the motive of the crime was related to her work as a defender of LGBT rights.

"This national organization demands that justice officials, with whom it remains in permanent contact, pursue a professional and thorough investigation to find those guilty of the crime and bring them to justice, so they receive the punishment the law requires," the CNDH said in a bulletin.

The CNDH also expressed its condolences to the families of the human rights defender and its solidarity with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) communities in the country, and particularly with those in Guanajuato state.

Hernandez Flores, who had been missing since last March 11, engaged in activities of championing and defending human rights as related to gender and the LGBT population. Read more via World News En Español
