Poland: PiS voted in favor of the law on the prohibition of sex education.

Law and Justice deputies voted in favor of the law on the prohibition of sex education, directing it to further work in the commission. Protests are taking place before the Sejm in Warsaw and in several dozen Polish cities.

The Sejm voted in favor of submitting a draft amendment to the penal code providing for penalization of sex education for further work in the commission. Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus, MP of the Left, applied in its entirety to reject the project. The Sejm rejected her request by a majority of votes.

For referral of the project to further develop voted 221 deputies of Law and Justice, six members kukiz'15 (including Stanislaw Tyszka, selected from the list to the Sejm PSL ninth tenure), two members of the Polish Peasant Party (Jacek Tomczak, Marek Biernacki), and three members representing the circle poselkie Confederation (including Robert Winnicki). The project was submitted as a citizen, which means that it is not covered by the principle of discontinuation. He will also be able to proceed in the next term of office of the Sejm.

What's in the design?

The authors of the project (to be read on the Sejm website ) want to ban "demoralization and sexualization of children". To this end, they propose to amend Art. 200b of the Penal Code. Currently, this provision provides:

Art. 200b. Whoever publicly promotes or praises pedophile behavior is subject to a fine, the penalty of restriction of liberty or the penalty of deprivation of liberty for up to 2 years.

The "Stop Pedophilia" initiative involves developing this provision by several points. From now on, anyone who "publicly promotes or approves of sexual intercourse by a minor" should be punished. If he does so by mass media, the penalty may be up to three years. The same punishment threatens to endanger "promoting and approving juveniles' sexual intercourse or other sexual activities" during "activities related to upbringing, education, treating or caring for minors".

It should be remembered that according to Polish law, a minor is a person under 18 years of age. Fifteen-year-olds can already have sex and engage in sex in Poland. Why do the project authors want to punish for praising something that is legal? Such a record is not a mistake or an accident. The act is not about fighting pedophilia.

It's really about sex education

In the justification of the project we read: "Responsible for" sexual education "of the environment enter into further educational institutions in Poland, awakening children sexually and promoting homosexuality, masturbation and other sexual activities among students."

As examples of classes "promoting or approving the undertaking of sexual activities by minors" are listed classes on:

  • contraception;

  • prevention of pregnancy among minors and sexually transmitted diseases (e.g. HIV and AIDS),

  • puberty and adolescence; the document mentions in particular such problems as:
    - equality, tolerance, diversity,
    - prevention of discrimination and exclusion,
    - prevention of violence,
    - homophobia,
    - gender identity, gender.

"Sex education" does not have to appear in the wording of the recipe itself. If you know what the legislative intention behind it is, and the same political power has an impact on law enforcement and even superintendents supervising educational institutions, the freezing effect is guaranteed.

But sex educators may not end there. According to the regulations, a gynecologist who would prescribe birth control pills to a seventeen-year-old could be responsible, or a school psychologist who would tell a teenager that masturbation ("other sexual activity") is something completely normal.

We discussed the "Stop pedophilia" project in detail in the text: Prison for sex education and prescribing contraception. The "Stop pedophilia" in the Sejm .
