The Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Justice actually wanted to introduce the law into the Federal Cabinet on Wednesday, even though they had only sent it to an assessment of various professional associations in the middle of last week. This is confirmed by several sources from trade associations and authorities to Buzzfeed News.
Now the process is postponed; possibly to negotiate further changes and to give more rights to associations and stakeholders.
The Transsexual Act of 1981 is considered very outdated, for many years require professional associations and stakeholders a recast. Justice Minister Katarina Barley and Family Ministers Franziska Giffey said on several occasions that the law should be repealed. But over the years, nothing happened - until suddenly it should go very fast.
A few days ago , BuzzFeed News published a bill drafted by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior. Trade associations had only two days last week to comment on the plans. Above all, the bill criticizes the fact that trans persons continue to be dependent on a medical report and have their gender recognized in a judicial procedure. Das Bundesinnen- und Bundesjustizministerium wollten das Gesetz eigentlich schon diese Woche Mittwoch in das Bundeskabinett einbringen, obwohl sie es erst Mitte der vergangenen Woche für eine Einschätzung an diverse Fachverbände geschickt hatten. Das bestätigen mehrere Quellen aus Fachverbänden und Behörden gegenüber BuzzFeed News.
Nun ist der Prozess aufgeschoben; möglicherweise, um über weitere Veränderungen zu verhandeln und Verbänden und Betroffenen mehr Rechte zuzugestehen.
