Chile: MOVILH values approval of rights for lesbians with assisted pregnancies

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday a bill that recognizes labor rights for lesbian mothers, when one of them undergoes assisted human reproduction techniques. This is the project that “Modifies the Labor Code to strengthen parental responsibility in labor standards on maternity and paternity protection”, approved by 104 votes in favor, 1 against and 41 abstentions.

“Although there is a long way to go before double maternity is recognized in every event, this is a great advance for lesbian mothers, because labor rights are compared in terms of postnatal leave and sickness of the child, as well as in relation to maternal jurisdiction. While the rights of all lesbian mothers raising children should be recognized, and not only those that have undergone human reproduction techniques, what was approved yesterday opens the door for full equality of lesboparentality, ”said the spokeswoman of the Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (Movilh), Daniela Andrade.
