Italy: Discussion on Zan Law postponed

A real cold shower on the LGBT + community, just today that the rainbow people took to the streets to support the Zan law . The President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico , has in fact announced the postponement of the bill. "At the request of the opposition group leaders" reads an official note, "by virtue of the positivity and quarantines that concern their groups, there will be a postponement of the Zan bill". Montecitorio , however, will continue its parliamentary activity.

The measure, Fico informed, "will be examined the following week. In the coming days, however, the activity of the Chamber will continue : in the Chamber with general discussions, questions and interpellations, and in parliamentary committees ». A choice that however recorded the reactions of associations and representatives of the political world.

ZAN: "THE LAW IS UNDER ATTACK"

To make the announcement, among the first, the Hon. Alessandro Zan, speaker of the law, from Piazza San Silvestro, in Rome. " The law is under attack" said Zan into the microphone "for me it is unacceptable to use the covid emergency, which is real, to postpone a law that Italy has been waiting for for 25 years, a law of civilization that protects people and it protects against a climate of hatred that is growing in this country » .

Then he launches an appeal: "It is  important that the movement, which is avant-garde, is united because 400 meters from here there is a single square that expresses the culture of patriarchy, homophobia and discrimination," the honorable remembers. «A square that would still be needed in the dark, without recognition and without rights. We cannot miss this train which, if it passed in vain, would not return soon, " he concluded.

"It is incredible and incomprehensible the decision to postpone the discussion on the law against homotransphobia and misogyny exclusively for the cases of positive covid19 of some group leaders" declares the national secretary Gabriele Piazzoni .

«If the legislative activity cannot continue for health reasons» continues Piazzoni «the whole Parliament is closed. The selective slippage of the single law that deals with crimes against LGBTI people sounds like a political trick to once again postpone the discussion on a law that has been awaited for 25 years . A slap in the face to the 60 squares that today throughout Italy have strongly asked Parliament to act quickly and do well in approving the law ».
