Poland: "Zones free from LGBT ideology" are emerging in Poland.

by NATALIA DYJAS

There is more and more talk about zones "free from LGBT ideology" . Especially in the east of Poland, where they are introduced. We discuss with Kacper Kubiak, vice president of the Institute of Equality in Zielona Góra about what brings the introduction of "LGBT free zones".

What threatens the introduction of zones free from "LGBT ideology"?

Such resolutions mean more difficult access to sex education in schools and other institutions. If someone wants to do equality events, marches, tolerance meetings, they may have problems with their organization. Because they will be treated as inconsistent with the assumptions of the given commune, poviat.

And other threats?

For now, these are very "soft" actions. But we sound the alarm. There have been such situations in history. Slowly implemented, they ended in a huge tragedy. Nobody killed anyone right away. Only it all began with being happy with people, marking places where some people didn't have access. Society does not draw any conclusions ... We treat resolutions as a warning. Such actions can go further and be bolder. And other municipalities will also be encouraged to introduce zones. And then more solutions. I don't want to think what. We won't let LGBT people into the restaurant? This has already taken place in Krakow, but it was soon condemned. It's very dangerous.

Both sides are more and more digging in their views ...

It's very hard. But we must talk, fight fears that are absolutely unjustified. LGBT is not an ideology. Not propagating something. This is a group of people who fight for equal rights and respect. They are people who feel excluded due to discrimination of their orientation and gender identity. Now they fight for their rights more intensively. They have always been in societies. They are not fashion.

How would LGBT people be a threat to traditionally conceived families?

Everyone has the right to follow a specific family model. But we will not run away from the facts. And the facts are that families that do not fit into the traditional model already exist. They won't just be here because they talk about it more often. Already same-sex couples are raising children. And toddlers suffer because they can't have legal guardians. If the biological mother dies, the other one is just an "auntie". Part of society prefers to think of the family as a marriage of a woman and a man. I do not want to learn, read, understand that it could be different. I think it's fear of the new one. We have such an example in history. People also had concerns about joining the Union, tearing down the Berlin Wall, and joining NATO. After all, some said that when we enter NATO, we will actively participate in every war, we will become the target of attacks! It's fear of the new one. And just try to understand it. And talk.
