Colombia: Three investigations open after the death of a trans woman in Bogotá

After almost a month of the death of Alejandra Monocuco, apparently, for not receiving timely medical attention when she requested the service, the Ministry of Health announced the opening of three investigations to clarify what happened. The trans community asks for justice.

According to a District statement, the first is a disciplinary investigation, to clarify whether the medical personnel involved have any responsibility for the alleged failures in Alejandra's care. The second will be for a possible breach of the contract of the workers who received the call to line 123, through which they requested medical attention for Alejandra.

Finally, according to the administration, since June 4, the Sub-Directorate for Inspection, Surveillance and Control of Services paid a visit to the Integrated Sub-Network of Health Services Norte ESE and determined that it would open an administrative investigation, for the alleged failures in the provision of services. . This inquiry is in the preliminary stage.

The entity also announced that they implemented training for health personnel and other related officials in the provision of the service, to improve medical care. So far, around 1,000 officials have been certified in the online course "Differential health care for people in the LGBTI sectors."

It should be remembered that the complaint of the alleged negligence and the failures in the service for Alejandra, was made by the Trans Community Network, through its social networks. At the time, the Ministry of Health assured that the respective diagnosis was made, but it was not possible to take the patient to a hospital, because one of the women who was there signed a transfer withdrawal.
