The Victorian Legislative Council passed an amendment to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996 (Vic), making it possible for transgender and gender diverse people to change the legal gender on their birth certificates.
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has expressed support for moves by the Victorian Labor government to ban so-called "gay conversion therapy", indicating he would take the issue to the Council of Australian Governments for a national solution.
