An exciting line-up of artists is performing at this year’s Pretoria Pride, which will also be attended by the Mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga.
Manila von Teez is probably the most high profile drag artist in South Africa, especially after her recent appearance on SA’s Got Talent, where she came second overall.
Inhabited by the very talented Veon Wentzel and supported by her dancers, Manila is set to perform at Pretoria LGBTI Pride this coming Saturday.
Latheem Gabriel is an up and coming LGBTQ+ artist who composed and sings the song chosen as the first ever Pride song in Africa.
The track is called Human Being and it has been steadily climbing up the GaySA Radio Top 30 (Saturdays between 12 – 3 pm). Latheem will perform several of his other songs.
These two main acts are supported by a host of community artists, who are also volunteering their performances in the interest of the community.
These include the almost operatic music of The Croons, the laid back rhythms of vocalist Danny, rapper Prunaka, lesbian artist Bizzcuit, lesbian outfit Glodine & Change The World, Nate, a slam poet or two, as well as Sinead O’Brian and Dozers Reloaded.
Of course, there will be also be a number of DJs working the decks: GaySA Radio’s DJ Rian and DJ Pieter as well as DJ Juran Botes, DJ Prince and DJ Kim E.
Pride would not be Pride without drag artists, and supporting Manila von Teez are Rebelchild RiRi Rouge, Genevieve le Coq, Sally Werq and drag group My Name Is Rose.
In another first, according to the organisers, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, will participate in the parade at 14h00, and will also deliver the keynote speech shortly thereafter. Read more via Mamba Online
