Bojack Horseman brings first out asexual character to Netflix

Critically acclaimed animated series Bojack Horseman has brought the A in LGBTQIA to the television screen as one of the shows leading characters reveals they are asexual in the brand new season.

If you haven’t seen the show yet, it follows the life of the titular Bojack (Will Arnett) as he comes to terms with his fading fame in an alternate version of Hollywood (later, Hollywoo – someone stole the D!) – along with his rival Retriever Mr Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tompkins), his biographer Diane (Alison Brie), his ex-girlfriend/cat Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris) and the human Todd Chavez (Aaron Paul) who once lived on his couch.

Though anthropomorphic animals live alongside humans in this fictional California, there is much overlap with the real world, and the writers take every opportunity to make animal-themed word play… as can be seen in this poster for a crustacean version of Will & Grace.

The show deals with a range of issues in a surprisingly powerful way; including addiction, sexuality, mental health, celebrity culture and family.

Now in its fourth season, creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg has brought one of television’s first asexual characters to the screen. (Spoilers ahead!) Read more via Out in Perth
