Asunción- Los dos principales candidatos a la presidencia de Paraguay afirmaron el miércoles que si ganan los comicios no permitirán la legalización del aborto ni el matrimonio gay.

Mario Abdo Benítez, del oficialista Partido Colorado, reiteró que si es elegido en las elecciones del 22 de abril "rechazaré cualquier proyecto para establecer el aborto y el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo".

"Dios hizo al hombre y la mujer para la procreación en unión matrimonial", especificó.

Por su parte, Efraín Alegre, candidato de la opositora Alianza Ganar, anunció en conferencia de prensa que durante su gobierno apoyará "las iniciativas ProVida contra el matrimonio igualitario y el aborto".

ProVida es una organización dependiente de la Iglesia católica a cuyo programa se adhirieron otras iglesias cristianas.

No obstante, Alegre aclaró que "buscaremos la figura jurídica adecuada para garantizar los derechos patrimoniales de las parejas" homosexuales "porque tampoco podemos desconocer la realidad". Read more via El Diario

Presidential candidates oppose equal marriage

The two main candidates for the presidency of Paraguay affirmed on Wednesday that if they win the elections they will not allow the legalization of abortion or gay marriage.

Mario Abdo Benitez, of the ruling Colorado Party, reiterated that if he is elected in the elections on April 22, "I will reject any project to establish abortion and marriage between people of the same sex."

"God made man and woman for procreation in marriage," he specified.

For his part, Efrain Alegre, candidate of the opposition Alliance Win, announced at a press conference that during his government will support "ProVida initiatives against equal marriage and abortion."

ProVida is an organization dependent on the Catholic Church to whose program other Christian churches adhered.

However, Alegre clarified that "we will look for the appropriate legal figure to guarantee the economic rights of" homosexual "couples because we can not ignore reality either."
