For years trans persons have been waiting for a reform of the transsexual law. Again and again, reforms were announced and postponed. On Wednesday, a bill was surprisingly sent from the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
The 1981 law is considered obsolete and harassing. The hope of trans persons and professional associations for a reform was therefore great.
However, the proposed bill, published by BuzzFeed News, provokes strong criticism and disappointment. Mercenary Bundestag politicians, trans persons and associations had demanded a self-determination law. It should be possible for a person to decide freely whether they want to live with a male, female or various civil status entry.
But the new bill preserves essential parts that have been previously criticized. Trans persons, for example, must continue to go through an official legal process if they wish to have their gender recognized and submit medical reports by medical practitioners. In addition, the rules for intersex people and trans persons are strictly separated. What's new, on the other hand, is that spouses have to be heard in the proceedings.
In addition, the deadline given by the ministries to the trade associations for comment is two days.

Menschen reagieren richtig wütend und enttäuscht auf einen Reformvorschlag für das Transsexuellengesetz
Seit Jahren warten trans Personen auf eine Reform des Transsexuellengesetzes. Immer wieder wurden Reformen angekündigt und wieder verschoben. Am Mittwoch wurde nun überraschend ein Gesetzentwurf aus dem Bundesjustizministerium und Bundesinnenministerium versendet.
Das Gesetz von 1981 gilt als veraltet und schikanierend. Die Hoffnung von trans Personen und Fachverbänden auf eine Reform war deshalb groß.
Der nun vorgelegte Gesetzentwurf, welcher von BuzzFeed News veröffentlicht wurde, ruft jedoch heftige Kritik und Enttäuschung hervor. Queerpolitische Bundestagspolitikerinnen und -politiker, trans Personen und Verbände hatten ein Selbstbestimmungsgesetz gefordert. Es solle von einer Person frei entschieden werden können, ob sie mit einem männlichen, weiblichen oder diversen Personenstandseintrag leben wolle.
