Today the minister of education, Marcela Cubillos, met with three trans organizations to see how to advance in inclusive educational policies. Also in the instance spoke through video call with Marcela Guevara, mother of Matías, a trans child who committed suicide for school bullying in Copiapó, and promised to demand that the Superintendency investigate the case in detail, after the multiple failures and negligence of the Sacred College Heart of Copiapó.
The meeting was attended by Franco Fuica and Paola Muga from OTD Chile, as well as Evelyn Silva and Ximena Maturana from the Selenna Foundation, and Claudia Becker from Trans Diversity. In it they expressed the shortcomings of the circular 0768, on the treatment that all establishments must have with their trans students, as well as the need to strengthen the document by providing tools to schools. In addition to the new challenge they face with the Gender Identity Law.
For the person in charge of legislation and public policies of OTD Chile, Franco Fuica, the meeting is an advance. "Unfortunately the case of Matías mobilized us all to realize once again that the circular 0768 is an advance, but insufficient for the reality of the trans children. Today the State of Chile can not guarantee a free education of harassment and discrimination for transgender children. We want to move towards a comprehensive policy of inclusion and care, which assures families that their children will be able to be educated on equal terms with the children who are cisgender without constant bullying to our population. We hope that in the next meeting we have a concrete work pattern, we are always available. "
Ministra Cubillos se compromete a investigar caso de niño trans que se suicidó en Copiapó y avanzar en políticas educativas inclusivas
Hoy la ministra de educación, Marcela Cubillos, se reunió con tres organizaciones trans para ver cómo avanzar en políticas educativas inclusivas. Además en la instancia conversó a través de videollamada con Marcela Guevara, madre de Matías, niño trans que se suicidó por acoso escolar en Copiapó, y se comprometió exigir a la Superintendencia investigar detalladamente el caso, luego de las múltiples fallas y negligencias del Colegio Sagrado Corazón de Copiapó.
A la reunión asistieron Franco Fuica y Paola Muga de OTD Chile, además de Evelyn Silva y Ximena Maturana de Fundación Selenna, y Claudia Becker de Diversidad Trans. En ella expresaron las falencias que presenta la circular 0768, sobre el trato que deben tener todos los establecimientos con sus estudiantes trans, así como la necesidad de fortalecer el documento entregando herramientas a los colegios. Además del nuevo desafío que enfrentan con la Ley de Identidad de Género.
Para el encargado de legislación y políticas públicas de OTD Chile, Franco Fuica, la reunión es un avance. “Lamentablemente el caso de Matías nos movilizó a todes a darnos cuenta una vez más que la circular 0768 es un avance, pero insuficiente para la realidad de les niñes trans. Hoy el Estado se Chile no puede asegurar una educación libre de acoso y discriminación para les niñes trans. Queremos avanzar hacia una política integral de inclusión y cuidados, que asegure a las familias que sus hijes van a poder educarse en igualdad de condiciones que les niñes cisgénero sin el bullying constante a nuestra población. Esperamos que en la próxima reunión ya tengamos una pauta concreta de trabajo, nosotres siempre estamos disponibles”. Read more via OTB
