Global Equality Caucus goes to Japan

A look-ahead to the Global Equality Caucus Asia-Pacific event... Following on from our global launch at the United Nations in June, we've been hard at work planning our next event.

Members of the Caucus will be meeting in Tokyo on 19 September for a series of meetings on LGBT+ priorities in the Asia-Pacific region, in association with the Lawyers for LGBT & Allies Network and Freshfields.

We will be bringing together politicians from across the region and our event will help to facilitate dialogue between lawmakers. Representatives from countries where marriage equality has been won will be able to share their experiences with those campaigning for similar laws.

Japan is the only G7 country that does not provide legal recognition for same-sex couples, despite polls indicating that a majority of Japanese citizens support marriage equality. We aim to be at the centre of knowledge-sharing on equal marriage legislation and to help move the debate in Japan forward.

We will be holding further regional events with our partners in the coming year, and our first international conference in London in 2020. Read more about the Global Equality Caucus
