Brazil: Brazilian government refuses to sign document in favor of LGBT agendas at Mercosur meeting

 by Caê Vasconcelos

Brazilian government refuses to sign documents recognizing terms such as "gender identity", "gender expression" and "hate crimes" at the 35th Meeting of High Authorities in Human Rights , of the Mercosur Permanent Commission LGBT +. As a result, Brazil opposed Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay on this issue and, for not agreeing, makes it difficult to approve the work plan.

The meeting took place this Thursday (10/22) and the country was represented by Marina Reidel, director of Promotion of LGBT + Rights, Vitor Marcelo Almeida, Special Adviser on International Affairs, Douglas Rodrigues, coordinator of International Affairs, all from MMFDH ( Ministry of Women, Family and Two Human Rights), by Damares Alves, and Daniel Leão, from the Human Directorate Division, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

À Ponte , Jovanna Baby, president of Fonotrans , affirms that the MMFDH is fulfilling the campaign promises of Jair Bolsonaro (without party). “He was elected with these proposals: to destroy all the guarantees already won, to end the legal frameworks, which promote citizenship and the rights of LGBTs”, he points out.

“This is the government's proposal, including maintaining an LGBT + directorate at the Ministry of Women, not to be able to manage programs developed for our population, but rather to endorse the dismantling of public policies, of the few that we have achieved”.

For Jovanna, Minister Damares is “the worst person for the LGBT + population in Brazil”. “She says she loves LGBTs and with that she gets some leaders who flatter those in power to guarantee resources. Damares is the main organizer for the destruction of everything we have achieved. She is the thinking head of this government to destroy everything that the evangelical group abhors ”.

“Damares is prepared, intelligent and dangerous. She does everything she does saying she loves us. This decision will ignite the violence and we will have more bloodshed. There are no human rights without everyone being included in it. We have to put in the account of these LGBTs who support and are in the government that they are also responsible for the murders that happen in the country ”, he completes.
