Mauritius: LGBT community obtains authorization for constitutional complaint

Last September 6, four young people from the LGBT community had seized the Supreme Court to challenge article 250 (1) of the penal code which, according to them, "violates our fundamental rights and our freedom" and is "unconstitutional" .

The Supreme Court gave them permission on June 12 to proceed with their constitutional complaint. Another youngster had filed a constitutional complaint with the Supreme Court, asking the courts to declare that this part of the law is "unconstitutional" and "illegal" , sanctioning an act of consent between two adults.

Subsequently, five people had filed a constitutional complaint asking that "sodomy should no longer be considered a crime by law" . Read more via Le Mauricien
