O UNAIDS Brasil lançou nesta sexta-feira (29/9), durante o 11.º Congresso de HIV/AIDS, em Curitiba, a tradução adaptada de seu Guia de Terminologia, um documento com recomendações sobre o uso de palavras que sejam cientificamente precisas e promovam os direitos humanos universais e a dignidade do indivíduo. Um dos objetivos do guia é também facilitar a compreensão dos principais temas relacionados ao HIV e à AIDS, bem como ao estigma e à discriminação.
O Guia de Terminologia foi lançado oficialmente durante o painel de debates “Palavras não são neutras: intervenções para reduzir o estigma da AIDS no Brasil”. A Diretora do UNAIDS Brasil, Georgiana Braga-Orillard, abriu o debate com uma apresentação do Guia e seus objetivos. Também participaram do painel os criadores de conteúdo no Youtube Gabriel Estrela (do canal Projeto Boa Sorte) e Marcos Borges (do canal Doutor Maravilha), além do jornalista e editor da Revista Galileu, Nathan Fernandes, autor da reportagem de capa da edição de agosto, sobre o peso do estigma e da discriminação para quem vive com HIV nos dias de hoje.
O objetivo da mesa foi discutir os avanços e desafios no uso linguagem relacionada ao HIV nos mais diversos campos como social, jornalístico, mídias tradicionais e digitais, medicina, ativismo e tantos outros. O debate buscou provocar uma reflexão sobre o momento em que vivemos, em que a consolidação do ‘politicamente correto’ em diferentes esferas se depara com o extremismo, a polaridade dos pensamentos e opiniões e um perceptível aumento da intolerância.
UNAIDS Brazil launched on Friday an adapted translation of its Terminology Guide, a document with recommendations on the use of words that are scientifically accurate and promote universal human rights and dignity of the individual. One of the guide's objectives is to also facilitate the understanding of key issues related to HIV and AIDS, as well as stigma and discrimination.
The Terminology Guide was officially launched during the panel discussion "Words are not neutral: interventions to reduce the stigma of AIDS in Brazil." Participating in the panel content creators on YouTube Gabriel Estrela (channel Good Luck Project ) and Marcos Borges (channel Wonder Doctor ), and the journalist and the Galileo magazine editor, Nathan Fernandes, author of the cover story in the August issue on the weight of stigma and discrimination against those living with HIV today.
The purpose of the table was to discuss the progress and challenges in the use of language related to HIV in various fields such as social, journalistic, traditional and digital media, medicine, activism, and many others. The debate sought to provoke a reflection on the time in which we live, where the consolidation of the 'politically correct' in different spheres are faced with extremism, the polarity of thoughts and opinions, and a noticeable increase in intolerance.
