Le film "Cassandro" de Marie Losier, en sortie nationale en France depuis le 5 décembre 2018, a commencé par une première au festival de Cannes au sein de la sélection de l'ACID et de nombreux festivals dont le Festival International de La Rochelle en juillet 2018 où cet entretien a été réalisé.
Cédric Lépine : Pour chacun de vos films, vous vous appropriez votre sujet à travers la culture des personnes filmées et proposer la forme d'expression artistique la plus appropriée.
Marie Losier : Comme je viens des beaux arts et de la littérature américaine, que je n'ai pas suivi d'écoles de cinéma, je n'ai absolument pas d'idées préconçues par rapport à une écriture de scénario. Je n'ai donc jamais pensé à ce que deviendrait le film fini. Je n'avais pas de limites de temps pour réaliser ce film. Je pense que le temps est ce qui forme aussi le film à travers notamment la répétition de la rencontre avec les personnages. Ce ne sont jamais des personnes que je choisies, c'est chaque fois la vie qui me propose ces rencontres de personnes dans chacun de mes films. Ces amitiés deviennent finalement des films. En raison du parcours que j'ai eu à New York dans les Beauts-Arts autour de la peinture, j'ai voulu aussi m'en éloigner pour accéder à mon indépendance artistique. J'ai commencé ainsi à travailler dans le théâtre pour Richard Forman, metteur en scène mythique à New York, à la frontière entre le cinéma de Jonas Mekas et le théâtre expérimental. J'ai très vite atterri il y a vingt-cinq ans dans le milieu underground avec des écrivains, réalisateurs qui croisent tous les médiums de la création avec la plupart du temps des économies personnelles, c'est-à-dire sans contrainte économique. Ceci signifie aussi une communauté d'amis très forte qui me forme et me maintient en vie en recréant une nouvelle famille ! J'ai toujours pu compter sur le soutien de cette famille pour réaliser mes films. Un tournage devient dès lors une fête, une célébration. Pour moi le bonheur se trouve davantage dans le moment du tournage et de ce qui s'y passe plutôt que tout autre axe de pensée par rapport à la fin du film.

Cédric Lépine: For each of your films, you get to grips with your subject through the filmed people's culture and propose the most appropriate form of artistic expression.
Marie Losier: As I come from the fine arts and American literature, that I did not follow film schools, I have absolutely no preconceived ideas about a screenwriting. So I never thought about what would become of the finished film. I did not have time limits to make this movie. I think that time is what also forms the film through including the repetition of the meeting with the characters. They are never people I choose, it is life that offers me these meetings of people in each of my films. These friendships eventually become movies. Because of the course I had in New York in the Beaux-Arts around painting, I also wanted to move away to access my artistic independence. J ' I began working in the theater for Richard Forman, a legendary director in New York, on the border between Jonas Mekas's cinema and experimental theater. I quickly landed twenty-five years ago in the underground world with writers, directors who cross all mediums of creation with most of the time personal savings, that is to say without economic constraints. It also means a very strong community of friends that trains and keeps me alive by recreating a new family! I have always been able to count on the support of this family to make my films.
