Pakistan: Peshawar police set up body for transgender community

PESHAWAR: The city police formed a four-member committee on Tuesday to look into the issues faced by the transgender community.

A statement issued here said that city police chief Qazi Jamilur Rehman decided to form the committee in the aftermath of the incidents of violence against transgender persons in the city.

SSP operations Javed Iqbal will head the committee and its members include SSP investigation Nisar Khan, SP cantt Waseem Riaz and SP city Shahzada Kokab Farooq.

The statement said that the committee would listen to the problems faced by transgender persons and resolve them. The committee would also take steps to ensure their security. It would also get input of the organisation working for transgeder persons’ welfare and every effort would be made to resolve their issues in the light of their proposals. Read more via Dawn
