Indonesia: Soldier Fired for Same-Sexuality, Diponegoro Military Command

KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian National Army ( TNI ) fired soldiers suspected of having deviant sexual behavior . Head of Information at the Regional Military Command (Kapendam) IV / Diponegoro, Lieutenant Colonel Kav Susanto, said the dismissal was carried out as a form of assertiveness of the TNI institution. "This is a firm action from our unity against LGBT behavior ," he said when confirmed, Thursday (15/10/2020).

As previously reported, quoted from the website of the Supreme Court on Wednesday (14/10/2020), a member of the TNI with the rank of chief soldier has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Semarang Military Court II-10. In the verdict, the soldier involved same-sex relations. 

Susanto explained that the selection process had actually been carried out since the recruitment of TNI soldiers. Apart from physical tests, the TNI also held mental and psychological health tests, as well as ideological tests. To anticipate the incident from recurring, the Diponegoro Military Command has issued a Telegram Letter confirming the prohibition on acts of deviant sexual behavior for active soldiers.Not only that, his party will deploy a cyber unit team to monitor the behavior trends of TNI soldiers.
