Same-sex partnerships will be celebrated “liturgically and understood theologically in the same way as different-sex partnerships,” the participants in the Extraordinary Synod of the the Catholic-Christian Church of Switzerland decided on Saturday August 22, 2020 in Zurich.
Decisions taken on August 22 by a large majority will not be immediately enforceable, but they should be then, because the subject is on the agenda of the ordinary session of November 2020.
Homosexuality has long been accepted
The synods, who sat in the Augustinerkirche, deepened their understanding of “marriage for all”. It was therefore not a question of whether homosexuality was generally acceptable in the "Old Catholic" Church or whether the blessing of same-sex partnerships was possible. The Church has already pronounced itself in 2002-2004 in a positive manner on these two questions and a rite of blessing has been in use since.
