Dreaming of a new India, where homophobia and social exclusionary policies are a thing of the past, new faces from sexual minorities are making a move into active politics. Although, India has legally embraced the presence of sexual minorities, at social level, there's still a lot to be done.
Participating in the electoral process is perhaps one which through which, this can be achieved and LGBT rights activists Harish Iyer also feels the same. Iyer announced that in order to weed out "homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia and the politics of hate," he is joining politics and he chose Congress to start his quest with. I know politics is seen as a dirty game. I know there are enough people who give it a bad name. But Queer people need to get into politics. Because otherwise we will always have (seemingly)straight and cis gendered men taking all our life decisions.
