Poland deeply divided over LGBT rights

“I’d like to apologize to the whole of Europe for the fact that scenes like this are happening here in the heart of Europe. That attitudes like this are making a comeback in Poland. I don’t understand it and I cannot accept it.”

In Poland, LGBT+ activists have been holding marches all summer, campaigning for rights such as civil partnerships or marriage. While the liberal opposition supports them, the conservative-nationalist government certainly does not. Alongside members of the clergy, it openly opposes the movement, turning LGBT+ rights into a campaign issue ahead of October's general election. In the meantime, Polish society remains deeply divided on the subject. Our correspondent reports.

When people came out of the church they were full of hatred. A long way from true Christian values it seems to me. All those who attack LGBT people swear that they are fighting an ideology, not people. But the ideology does not exist. Only we exist.
