Morocco: LGBT + community targets social media whistleblowing campaign

A Moroccan Instagramer living in Turkey has launched a denunciation, defamation and even extortion campaign targeting the LGBT + community in Morocco in recent weeks. The goal is to trap users of dating applications to "out" and denigrate them. Members of civil society have already taken up the matter by calling on the authorities to act against the actions of this influencer

For several weeks, the Moroccan LGBT + community has been the victim of an intense campaign of denunciation, defamation and in some cases of extortion. The target, users of dating applications dedicated to the community who find themselves trapped by fake accounts, who threaten to reveal their identity.

Behind this campaign, a transsexual influencer on Instagram followed by 600,000 people, living in Turkey and who, via “lives” on the social network, does not hesitate to share the personal data and photographs of her victims, notably defaming them accusing them of spreading the AIDS virus. In his videos, the person in question goes so far as to ask his “followers” ​​to create false accounts in order to trap the maximum number of people. Some of these false accounts have even attempted to extort money from victims.

Calls to report the account of the initiator of these attacks have already been launched by several Internet users and activists of individual freedoms in order to end this campaign which has already claimed several victims.

In an appeal signed by several entities of civil society, including the Prometheus Institute, Atyaf Collective, the Group of Young Women for Democracy or even the Akaliyat association, the name of the person responsible for this campaign is directly mentioned: Sofia Talouni using Naoufalmoussa as a nickname.

The signatory associations and collectives call on the institutions and organizations to inform the authorities concerned of the actions of this influencer on social networks. " Many of these people live with their families, especially because of their quarantine," alerted the call.

And to specify that the influencer in question also attacked the efforts of Moroccan civil society associations, "in particular the associations fighting against AIDS who make great efforts and work hard for the security and well-being of the LGBTQA + community and Moroccan society ”.
