Bolivia: Older Adult Population With Diverse Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

From August 18th to 20th, the older adult population with diverse sexual orientation and gender identity, shared, debated and established a plan of action to improve their quality of life, during 3 days, the bisexual, homosexual and transsexual older adults, have empowered, shared and worked on an Plan of Action that will be executed on the 2017-2021 period.  

With great success, the first national meeting of older adult LGBT people was carried out in Bolivia; which was organized by Manodiversa in alliance with the Elderly Group, and the support of UNFPA, Positive Action, ViiV Healthcare, and Svalorna Latinoamerica.

For three days, they dealt with subjects such as preferential treatment, Law 369 of the Elderly people, reality of older LGBT adults, Family Life Agreement Bill, Health Care, and Multi-Treatment, including ARVs for HIV, Activism of the Elderly, and The Inter-American Convention on the Human Rights of Older Persons.

The main issue of the meeting was the construction of a Plan of Action for the 2017-2021 period, which aims to improve social and legal environments, to improve the quality of life of older adults, the free expression of their sexual orientation and gender identity in adulthood without discrimination. The areas that this Plan includes are: health, housing situation, education, work, labor access, establishment of reception spaces and compatibility of Law 369 of Older Adults with the Inter-American Convention of Elderly.
